Case: 01010011

Class 3a

Three young girls have unforgettable close encounter.

Report Details

Occurrence date: Winter/1969
Location: Panola County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Beckville
Time / Conditions: Afternoon
# of Witnesses: 3

Witness Account:
I was around nine years old, my aunt was around ten and my little sister four. There had been a fire out in the woods behind my grandmother's house a week before and so we wanted to go and see where it was. The three of us walked through the field and had just entered the edge of the woods when we stopped in shock. About 30 yards from us stood an animal of some kind. It was standing straight up. It was very tall and covered in fur like an ape, but it did not look exactly like an ape, more man-like. It did not look mean. It did not move. Within seconds we turned and fled running so fast we never remembered going through a barb wire fence. I will never ever forget that experience.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Craig Woolheater

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Panola County, Texas, involving three young girls and an unknown, reportedly hair-covered biped, in the winter of 1969.

I interviewed the witness on Thursday, 27 September 2001. The witness, her younger sister, and her aunt reportedly experienced the visual encounter together. The witness was nine years old, her sister was four years old, and her aunt was ten years old.

The witness was able to provide additional details about the incident:

*The season of the sighting was probably winter. It was cold enough outside for her to wear a winter coat, which she tore while running through the barb wire fence.

*The subject was described as seven feet to eight feet tall.

*The color of the subject was dark or a "brownish color."

The reported sighting took place on the edge of the woods behind her grandmother's house. The witness remembered thinking to herself: "Why is that big man standing there?" The witness described the subject as appearing more human-like than ape-like, but actually appeared just too bizarre to be a human. The witness remembered her reaction shifting from one of shock to real terror as she realized that what she was seeing was not a human, but was something altogether unique and unknown. All three of the children turned and ran back to the house.

The witness recalled that during the encounter the subject made no movements. Just prior to and during the sighting, no sounds were heard in the area. The girls did not even think about returned to the spot to look for tracks; it was not something that remotely crossed their minds given that they had seen it and needed no further verification.

According to the witness, her uncle and grandfather also reported similar incidents. The uncle claimed an encounter while he was with friends camping deeper in the woods. He had mentioned that panther-like screams were heard before the sighting.

At the conclusion of the interview, the witness emphasized that the experience left an indelible mark on her that will never fade.
