Case: 01030002

Class 3a

Two people recall road encounter not far from the Red River.

Report Details

Occurrence date: Winter/1973
Location: Fannin County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Savoy
Time / Conditions: Late at Night. — Several houses were in the area - it is a rural wooded area with farm houses scattered around.
# of Witnesses: 2

Witness Account:
It was around the end of 1973 or the beginning of 1974. It was 6 miles north of Savoy, Texas. It was only about 1/2 mile from the Oklahoma border (the Red River). I was traveling at night and therefore I did not get a good look. I was about to go across a small bridge and this creature on 2 legs darted across in front of me. It was large - I would guess at least 8 or 9 feet tall. It was dark in color and walked quite swiftly to get across the bridge and then just simply disappeared into the woods there. I did not stop to investigate, but a friend was with me and we both looked at each other at the same time and said, "What in the world was that?" We both saw the same thing.

Physical evidence:
None, we didn't stop to investigate. No odors, we didn't get out of the car.

Sounds:
No sounds were heard.

Additional observations:
Large, 8 to 9 feet tall, clearly walked on 2 legs.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Charles DeVore

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Fannin County, Texas near the Red River, in 1973.

I interviewed the submitting witness by phone 26 August 2003.

The primary witness is a now a 47 year old male. The reported sighting happened approximately 30 years ago when the witness was 17 old. The witness told me that he had been drinking that night, but he was absolutely not intoxicated. He and his friend both saw the same thing.

The witness remembered that he and his friend were traveling east on Farm to Market road 1753, approximately a half mile east of Farm to Market road 1752 at the bridge crossing Brushy Creek. Brushy Creek flows to the Red River, which is about a half mile to the north. The witness said that a large hairy figure darted across the road about 30 feet in front of his car. He estimated that the subject was 8 to 9 feet tall and bipedal. The witness did not remember the subject looking at them; he did not remember facial features or eye shine. He estimated that the whole sighting lasted no more than two seconds.

The witnesses did not go back to look for evidence. Being so close to the car, they did not have time to see any features other than it was large, upright, bipedal, dark-colored and covered with hair. The witnesses were impressed with how fast the subject moved across the road.

I was unable to interview the second witness.
