# of Witnesses:

Witness Account:
I was deer hunting that morning. I had gotten situated in my climbing tree stand overlooking the grassy area adjacent to the Mayhaw pond. I was near a slough off the Neches River. I had been on stand since around 5 that morning. Several hogs were in the shorter grass rooting, when the largest sow spooked and they all ran off toward the woods. I then saw a large man, I thought, walking slowly, looking around. I saw that it was covered with a brownish fur. It was male, obviously. I studied it through my binoculars, 12x50 Bushnells, at a distance of about 25 to 30 yards. He kept looking behind him, and pausing. I judged him to be approximately 8 1/2 to 9 feet tall. Extremely broad shouldered, thick muscular body. Smooth stride. Then another, smaller one followed. I assumed this one to be female, since "she" had pronounced breasts, and no indication of male genitals as the larger one had. She stood around 6 to 7 feet tall. The height was judged by the trees that they were standing next to. I could hear soft mutterings and whistlings coming from them as they would look at each other. They were turning over fallen limbs and eating something from under them. They also ate leaves off several of the trees around them. She had blondish, light brown hair, rather short in length, yet was strongly built. I watched them for about 30 minutes before they got out of sight. I waited about another half hour before climbing down. I went to check out the site, and found tracks and noticed an odor that was stronger than that of the hogs. It seemed more of a musky scent, not entirely unpleasant as the hog scent. I wear size 13eee, and the larger male had feet half again as big as my own. The female didn't seem to leave very pronounced tracks, although they were visible. I am 6'2" tall and his stride was almost double that of mine. I have not talked about this to anyone since that day, and simply wanted to share it with someone who may appreciate it. I have hunted those woods most of my life, fished the river, and camped. I have heard many strange sounds in those bottoms, but this is the first time I have ever seen anything like this. It was almost spiritual, in some way. They seemed to be gentle creatures, and very vocal with each other. I hope that they live happily and are not discovered by some of the boys who frequent the woods these days. They are as likely to try to kill one as to look at the sighting as a gift from nature, to be appreciated.

Physical evidence:
Tracks

Sounds:
Yes, mewling, guttural, short whistling sounds. Some grunts. Myself and others have heard screaming howls, not like that of a coyote or dog. Not like a cougar. I have heard them all, even a screech and hoot owl didn't sound like this. Heard grunts and whistles usually at night.

Additional observations:
Yes, a musky, rather pleasant odor. Strong, but not malodorous.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Mike Hall

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Trinity County, Texas, in November of 2004.

I extensively interviewed this witness, in the process questioning him on every detail about this extraordinary and in depth report. The witness told me that he "darn sure" wanted no one to know about the event, and that he had not even told his wife or family about it; he thinks they would make fun of him or just simply not believe him. I could discern nothing to indicate that the witness was fabricating the event or that he did not earnestly believe that the event actually happened. He certainly conveyed to me a deep conviction that the event transpired exactly as he portrayed it.

The witness meticulously described the two subjects that he reportedly watched that day, even mentioning that he was able to see genitalia and was thus able to distinguish the genders of each. The witness claimed that he had a long time (approximately 30 minutes) to observe the two subjects; he was in a tree stand and was upwind. What the witness described as the male appeared as the larger of the two, and was estimated at around eight feet in height, with a "sheen" to its "dark chocolate brown, pretty shaggy" hair. The female, identified by the witness by the human-like breasts in view, appeared to be between six and one-half to seven feet tall. The hair on the female was described as "honey colored," and covered the entire body except around the face, hands and on the breasts.

The witness also told me that he heard what he described as a "mumbling" type of "chatter," along with "whistles" and "clicking" sounds; the witness believed that he was observing the unknown subjects as they were communicating with one another. The witness told me that as he sat and watched, the subjects appeared not alarmed and seemed to take their time while scavenging around the area, picking and eating leaves, turning over bits of deadfall looking for what he assumed was grubs and such and then moved out of the area. The witness told me that he considered at one time during the encounter to yell at the subjects in order to prompt some sort of response from them, curious about what they might do. However, his impression was that the pair was a "mating couple" and so he decided not to harass them in any way.

It is my assessment that the witness was forthright, open and honest; I found his account compelling. I believe that the witness, without doubt, believes the event happened exactly as he described in his report.

It should be noted that the area is certainly within what we consider to be suitable habitat zone for the target species in Texas; the Neches River Basin has abundant hardwood and pine forest (cover), is teeming with wildlife, rainfall and water (sustenance) and has a long history of incident reports. The Neches River extends south from the Davy Crockett National Forest, meets the Angelina River at B.A. Steinhagen Lake, and then descends down into the Big Thicket National Preserve. Further, the witness told me that he has hunted and camped this same area since he was 18 - 19 years old, and has always heard the kinds of noises that he described hearing from the subjects in his sighting report.
