Class 3b

Brothers recall night time encounter at grandfather's mountain home.

Report Details

Occurrence date: Summer/1975
Location: Montgomery County, AR
Nearby/Vicinity: Glenwood
Time / Conditions: Just after dark — Clear night.
# of Witnesses: 3

Witness Account:
It was my grandfather's trailer and he and my dad were out on patrol as he was the city marshall. My older brother was sitting on the couch watching TV and eating a sandwich while my little brother and I ate spaghetti-os. My older brother kept shielding his eyes with his hand like he was out in the sun but it was night time and we were indoors. When asked why he became very upset and said something was looking at him through the window in the front door. My mother looked and saw it too and put a blanket over the window so it couldn't see in. Later she would say it looked like "a dirty old hairy hippie, with glowing eyes".

The blanket must have angered it or scared it. It pushed on the trailer and rocked it a little then after walking around the trailer house a few times and breathing really loud it tore apart a shed out back that was empty and left, later everyone tried to write it off as a black bear, but when we cut our stay short and left the next morning, the bottom stair on the front deck was broken and about 3 feet out was a perfect bare human footprint I remember as being somewhat large but not gigantic, probably only as large as a big man with a size 13 or larger feet. I think it smashed through the step and landed hard on one foot. It was the only track. This is when I committed the greatest crime against cryptozoology, I picked up a stick and obliterated it.

Sorry guys, I was five and it was how I fought back, it would have been the perfect cast, and I wish I had understood then how important a cast would have been.

Hand/foot prints:
One Large footprint, human-like.

Sounds:
Heavy breathing.

Investigator's Observations

This report was published as a result of an investigation into an incident that allegedly occurred in Montgomery County, Arkansas in 1975.

I spoke with two of the three brothers that were present during this event; I believe described the events of that night to the best of their recollection. Some details are a little vague since they were very young at the time, being approximately four to six years old. Neither of the two surviving brothers saw the subject. The event was burned into their memories due to the great fear experienced by their mother during the event and the family talking about it all their lives. The brothers now live several states apart. The oldest brother who reportedly first saw the subject has since passed away.

Location: The incident was at a mobile home on the side of a mountain somewhere between Glenwood, Arkansas and Caddo Gap, Arkansas; about 35 miles west of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Note that the Caddo River flows beside this highway between the two towns. The family was visiting their grandfather.

Present at the time of event were the three young boys and their mother. The time of the event was just after dark; everyone was sitting around the kitchen table for supper.

According to the surviving brothers, first, they all noticed that the oldest boy was holding his hands over his eyes while sitting at the table. The brothers recalled the mother asking what was going on. The older brother replied that he was hiding from that ?thing? looking at him through the front door window. The brothers told me that their mother looked and then observed a hairy human-like face looking in through the window. The brothers told of how the only thing wrong was that the eyes were reflecting, giving the figure?s eyes a very scary appearance; apparently the mother and oldest son thought that the eyes alone were enough to put the figure in the non-human category. Reportedly, at this time, the mother screamed, and yelled for the children hide. The mother grabbed a blanket or sheet and draped it over the door window while shouting for the kids to run and hide. She then retrieved a shotgun but could not find any shells for it. She found bullets for a pistol but could not locate the pistol.

Meanwhile the subject reportedly circled the house to the rear door, supposedly slamming against the house several times as it went to the back door. According to the brothers, the door knob on the back door rattled before the subject, presumably, slammed against the door but did not open it. The brothers told me that they could all hear loud heavy breathing. The mother called for the father and grandfather; both arrived shortly thereafter. They men supposedly found the front porch step caved in and one very large human-like footprint beside the porch. The brothers recalled that the print was way too large to be of human origin.

The family also found the small shed in the back yard to be destroyed. The back door on the house had not been locked so they assumed that it could have been opened had the knob been twisted.

The family packed up and left the next day. The grandfather continued to live there.

To the brothers? knowledge, nothing like that has happened again.

Because the family saw the footprint that was, in their opinion, too large for a human, the eyes reflecting from interior lights, the seeming inability of the prowler to turn the back door knob, the extreme strength required to destroy the back yard shed, their assumption was that they had been visited by a bigfoot.
