Occurred April 17, 2004
(Submitted April 26, 2004)

Witness Observation

On April the 17th 2004 I was turkey hunting in the Ouachita National Forest about four miles West from Big Cedar, Oklahoma with my girlfriend and my brother. I had crossed the creek that ran alongside an old log road that headed up the mountain to the west, when I decided to hunt the creek bottom that afternoon. As I set up my turkey blind and got settled in to do some hunting, I blew one of my locater calls. It was a screaming hawk. After sitting there for about 15 minutes, I turned my head and noticed a burnt looking tree about 50 yards to my left. I raised my shotgun and looked at it with my scope when I realized what I was seeing was not a tree but a large creature like I have never seen before. It stood about eight feet tall, had charcoal dark color hair covering its entire body. It was about three inches long and coarse in appearance. It was watching me as well as I was watching it. Its eyes were reddish-brown in color. it had long arms and walked up right never taking its eyes off me, and I never took my eyes off of it. I have never been scared of anything in the woods but this thing was massive in size and I can say this thing scared me, and I have not been back in the woods before daylight since.

Not at the time I saw this thing.

Additional Observations

It was a very large creature around 8 feet tall, walked upright and had a musky odor with hair covering most of its body that I could tell. It had very large arms and legs and its biceps were longer than a man's. There have been a few folks that have said they've heard strange screams sometime at night.

A week after, my nephew and I were sitting on the tailgate of my truck in front of my sister's, when we both heard loud screams of some large creature coming from the mountain in front of my sister's place not far from where I had been hunting. This was something like I have never heard before. The cows were so scared they ran in panic and got up under an RV light.

My nephew said he and his brother looked the next day and found a bunch of grass that looked as if some large man had walked around and found something that looked like footprints.

Time and Conditions

4:00 pm - Partly cloudy, rain was forecast.

Investigator's Comments

Jerry Hestand, Daryl Colyer and Alton Higgins

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, 17 April 2004.

The witness took Alton Higgins, Daryl Colyer and me (Jerry Hestand) to the site of this incident. We found that he was another witness who very much wanted to tell someone what had happened to him. The witness has been all over and hunted this area of the Ouachita Mountains. He mentioned that before this encounter happened he had met a logger who, while clear cutting an area south of his sighting, claimed that he had seen a bigfoot.

The witness was reportedly hunting turkey from a blind about fifteen feet above a creek bottom. He used a screaming hawk call, and it was his impression that the subject approached out of curiosity, looking for what made the call. The witness reportedly saw a "charcoal, grayish-black creature" approximately fifty yards away. The subject reportedly saw the hunter and knew it was being watched. The witness told us that he knew right away that the subject was real because it locked its red eyes on him. The witness said he knew he was not supposed to be in the animal's territory; this was just a feeling that he had. The two watched each other, which seemed like an eternity, then it turned and walked away, very much like the subject in the famous Patterson-Gimlin film.

The witness thought that the subject might have been trying to get downwind from him, since the wind was to the southwest. The witness believed that it had approached from the south of the creek, and left the same way. The witness was to the north of creek. The hunter believed that it might have been in a sheltered area of thick underbrush.

The witness thought that the subject went toward a mountainous area and followed part of a river. He also feels he may be able to lead a team of NAWAC investigators near this area.

DESCRIPTION: The witness reported that what he saw looked very much like Patterson-Gimlin film subject. The eyes were red, with not much white. The head was pointed/dome shaped. It appeared to be a very powerful, huge animal, perhaps over eight feet tall and 450 - 600 pounds. The biceps were long and the arm was long, reportedly to mid-thigh. It also had "coarse hair like buffalo hide"; the hair looked a little more red as it moved into the light. The face may have been a little lighter, but it may have been the smooth skin reflecting from the sun.

The witness claimed that he smelled a musky smell, much like a fox den. The witness did not smell anything until the wind changed direction; it was not an overpowering smell, but still strong.

On another occasion the witness claimed that he had heard a low growl that built to a high pitched scream, lasting for a minute to a minute and a half.

An investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot by a very reliable observer is a distinct possibility, tangible corroborating evidence is documented, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 1d
A visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility involving two or more reliable observers, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 2
Investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility, the observer is exceptionally trustworthy, professionally trained, and experienced in the outdoors and/or is accustomed to looking for and recording details (e.g., biologist, anthropologist/archaeologist, ranger, trapper/tracker/seasoned hunter, bird watcher, game warden, naturalist, law enforcement), and other explanations can be reasonably excluded.
Class 3a
Investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility, the observer is credible, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 3b
Unidentifiable vocalizations were reported and there is accompanying tangible evidence to possibly indicate the presence of a sasquatch/bigfoot, the observer is very reliable, and other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 3c
No visual encounter occurred, but physical evidence was found to indicate the presence of a sasquatch/bigfoot (tracks, hair, scat, etc.), the observer is very reliable, and other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
