Witness Account:
was about 9:45 or so that evening and I was sitting on the porch swing. The moon was real bright that night and I was watching a couple rabbits in the yard, my dog was at my feet. All at once this foul putrid odor came up. At this point my dog stood and but didn't make a sound. At first I thought the septic system had backed up. But then the dog started doing something I had never heard him do. He was whining but at the same time trying to growl. I looked in the direction he was facing and could see something standing on the edge of the thicket. I told the dog to catch it but he didn't move. This too was something he had never done. I watched as this thing crouched down and stay put for about two minutes. Then slowly turn, still crouched over and start across the field. This thing moved just like a man walking crouched over. I have seen numerous bears in the wild and this was not a bear. It made its way across the field to the fence row (about 150 yards), on two feet. I have never seen a bear do that. At that point I went inside and got my headlight and rifle and started across the field with my dog. The whole way he was whining and under foot. At about 50 yards from the fence row I stopped and shined my light. What I saw was unlike anything I had seen before. Whatever this was had the strangest colored eyes. They were a translucent blue. I saw them just above the fence but could not make out a body because the fence was overgrown with briars and honeysuckle. This thing started moving up and down the row about 10 yards in both directions, then stood up. It was about two feet taller than the fence. This was a typical 5' farm fence. At this point, not knowing what I was facing and the fact that my dog was still whining and kept trying to go back to the house I decided to go back myself and leave whatever this was alone.

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, in the summer of 1982.
I interviewed the witness at length 3 February 2005. My impression was that he was very credible and knowledgeable of the woods; he is a life long hunter who seemed quite familiar with all types of woods noises, night time sounds and different animal eye reflections. He was very familiar with night time deer and black bear habits and their eye reflections and positive that what he saw was not one of those common animals. He was a very experienced coon hunter and as such has seen much in the way of night time animal activity.
His report was very well detailed and he could think of very little to add to the report. This was the first time that he had seen this sort of translucent blue eye shine and he was openly perplexed about it. This was also the first time that his dog would not approach or attack at his urging. The witness told me that his dog had always been fearless until this occasion.
This sighting occurred 1/4 mile of Boggy Bayou and 35 miles south of Alexandria, Louisiana.
During my extensive discussion with him, it seemed reasonable to exclude all known indigenous animals. Combining his knowledge of night time viewing of all types of animals, the unusual odor, the subject's bipedalism, the height of the subject's eye reflection above overgrown fence line and his dog's frightened behavior, it is difficult to attribute the characteristics of the subject to any other form of wildlife than one that is not currently listed.
