Case: 04080012

Class 3a

Kids have encounter while visiting grandparents on the Fourth of July.

Report Details

Occurrence date: July/1981
Location: Beauregard Parish County, LA
Nearby/Vicinity: Longville
Time / Conditions: 10 to 11 PM, clear, summer night. It was night time and the area at the time was very rural, we are talking a two lane road with a blinking yellow light to mark the town. So there were no city lights.
# of Witnesses: 4

Witness Account:
My family was visiting my grandmother who lived in Longville during the week of the 4th of July. There was a family that lived next door who had two boys about my age. My brother and sister and I along with the boys from next door had been shooting off fireworks all day. We had been having a bottle rocket war (shooting bottle rockets at each other). Probably why they don't sell them anymore. Anyway, we were in teams. One boy and I on one team and the other boy and my brother and sister in the other. They lived on about ten acres of land. They had a large pond on the property towards the back, kinda in the woods. So we were playing all over the property when my team ran to the other side of the pond which is nearest to the woods. Well, we were not there very long because we heard heavy footsteps, and very heavy breathing coming from behind us. I don't remember smelling anything. The area has lots of pine trees with some underbrush and I could hear (whatever) coming through the brush. That is when we turned and saw it. I turned to see what was coming, thinking it was a friend of mine. I turned on a flashlight shining it about chest high. All I saw was grayish brown hair I moved the light up to illuminate the face and when I did that all I remember were two bright yellow eyes shining at me, that was until it blocked the light with its hands. I dropped the light and started running to the house screaming my head off.

We were screaming and yelling so much that the other kids started to scream and yell too. We ran back to my grandmother's house. Our parents didn't believe us, they thought we imagined it.

Physical evidence:
No, I didn't think to look. I was about twelve at the time.

Hand/foot prints:
None noted

Sounds:
Not anything other than it breathing heavily. Not like it was out of breath, it just expelled a lot of air.

Additional observations:
Heard heavy footsteps, and very heavy breathing coming from behind us.

About two days later, the 2 boys' dad thought he saw a large man standing near a tree house we had built. But when he opened to door to yell at the man, the man ran off. This was at night.

We had been going to my grandmother's house for years. We would go exploring in the woods with the neighbor boy for as long as I could remember. He was a "country boy". I loved to able to roam around, since I lived in the city.

There are abandoned train tracks that run parallel to the property. We would walk down them for miles. We would sometimes get the feeling we were being watched, but never saw or heard anything.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Charles DeVore

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana in 1981.

I interviewed the primary witness at length 24 September 2004. His report is very detailed and left very little to add. The location of this event was less than a mile south from the intersection of Hwy 171 and 110 which is about 25 miles north of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The witness's grandparents no longer live there so he has not retuned to the site in several years. He had returned to the site many times to visit his grandparents until he was about 16 years old but he had no more personal sightings.

The witness told me that he and his friends did return a few days later (with their shotguns) to look around and could find no sign of the subject.

The witness indicated that, although he was only 12 years old at the time, the distance from subject to him was likely about 30 feet. He did remember that it was apparently close enough for the kids to hear the subject's alleged "heavy breathing."

The witness stated that in his flashlight beam, all he saw was grayish brown hair. The witness recalled how he raised the light to illuminate the subject's face and saw only the eyes reflecting bright yellow. No facial features could be remembered by the witness. The witness did recall how the subject seem to be standing on two legs and that it raised its hands to shield its eyes from the flashlight beam.
